Smoky Mountain McMahan Progenitors


Archibald McMahan is thought to be born in Ireland maybe migrating to Pennsylvania about 1762 at the age of 16. He lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama. He applied for Revolutionary War pension at the age of 103 and some sources say he lived to 110.

Listed are 12 generations of 5,167 known descendants (7986 if you include spouses) of Archibald "Redmond" McMahan.

James Wellington McMahan was born about 1750/1755 in Dublin, Ireland and died 16 September 1831 in Sevierville, Sevier County, TN.

Listed are 9 generations of 262 descendants (398 if you include spouses) of James Wellington McMahan.

William H. McMahan is a descendant a Fergus McMahan son of John (died in early 1830's in Abbeville County, SC) and Sarah McMahan. Other children of John and Sarah are John R. (moved to Georgia), Archibald (died 1832), and possibly Margaret, William, Elizabeth (wife of John Anderson), Alexander, and Sarah (wife of Wm. Mann). No connection to Archibald Redmond is yet identified for this line.

Sim Seckbach is a McMahan descendant through William and Mary (Black) McMahan.

Paul Zebe is a descendant of John McMahan (died on 20 Sep 1843 in Saline County, Missouri) and Susan(nah) McMahan. John McMahan was a son of John McMahan, who came to America from Ireland. Susan McMahan was a granddaughter of William McMahan, who came to America from Maltrose, Ireland. The elder John and William may have been related. No connection to Archibald Redmond or James Wellington has been established for these lines.
