Jonanna Varena Whaley Martin , passed away in San Antonio, Texas September 1, 2005 at the age of 98. She was born July 1, 1907 in Guymon, Oklahoma, daughter of Hattie Mabel Wood Whaley and William Henry Whaley . After she graduated from Jacksboro High School, she married Francis James (Frank) Martin of Tyler, in 1934. Known to her family and friends as Joan, she is survived by three daughters, Sandra Ruth Hamilton of Boerne, Sharla Joan Holdeman of Fair Oaks Ranch, and Sunnye Frances Martin of Houston, four grandsons, Michael Baylor Allison of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Andrew Joel Kimbrough of London, England, Stephen Lee Hamilton of Denver, Colorado, and Mitchell Jason Kimbrough of Menlo Park, California, and three great grandchildren. Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Martin , her two sisters, Marietta Whaley Moss and Thressa Manley, and her brother, William Clark Whaley . The family requests that memorials be sent to the Wood Cemetery Association, 900 Broken Stirrup, Jacksboro, Texas 76458, or to the American Red Cross for the benefit of the survivors of hurricane Katrina. Graveside Services will be held at Wood Cemetery Tuesday, August 6, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday evening at White's Funeral Home, 101 N E 4th Ave., Mineral Wells, TX., 76067.
