(June 16, 1933 - June 29, 2012) Mary Ruth Thompson, age 79, of Newport, passed away, Friday, June 29, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Kate Stinson; daughter, Collette Thornton Phillips; and sister, Judy Stinson Webb. She is survived by her sons, Michael Patrick Thornton of Houston, Texas, and John Dillard Baxter; daughter and son-in-law Kim and Tim Gunnin all of Mooresburg; brothers, Roger Stinson and Bobby Stinson, both of Newport; sisters, Louise Starnes of Parrottsville and Shirley Fine of Knoxville; grandchildren, Michael Thornton, Ashley Schmidt, Mattea McCann, Tyler Gunnin, Cameron Gunnin and Morgan Gammel; six great grandchildren; and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Monday, July 2, 2012 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mike Hensley officiating. Burial will held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
