(March 22, 1929 - September 16, 2012)
Johnnie T. Wilson, age 83, a long time resident of Newport died on Sunday, September 16, 2012. She was preceded in death by her loving husband (Alvin B. Wilson) of almost 54 years; her parents (Jesse (Baxter) Templin and Garland Templin; her brothers (Jim and Bill Templin); and her sister (Madline Murrell). She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson (George, Kim and Michael Wilson of Ashburn, Virginia); and two sisters (Polly Murrell of Newport and Joyce Rolen of Chattanooga); sisters-in-law (Wilma Wilson of Newport and Grace Wilson of Chattanooga); and brother-in-law Demree Dillon of Chattanooga.) Johnnie was the most happiest when Alvin was alive and they together served their Lord and Savior within the community and within the walls of the English Creek Baptist Church. She was one of the founding members of the English Creek Baptist Church where she served as the Sunday School Director for 37 years and as the Vacation Bible School Director for many years. She was loved and admired by her family. She was a remarkable wife, mother, and Granny. Johnnie will be remembered for her intelligence, generous spirit, her straight talk, and her gift of serving the community. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She hosted the yearly Baxter family reunion at her home until the last several years of her life when she was not physically able to orchestrate the event. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at English Creek Baptist Church, with Pastor Brian Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the Baxter-Templin Cemetery on English Mountain Road. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that memorial contributions be made to the English Creek Baptist Church.
