GLADYS ELIZABETH JANE (SHORT) HAMILTON, 90, Seymour, passed away quietly into the arms of Jesus Wednesday morning, February 15, 2012. She was of the Christian faith. Preceded in death by husband, Harry Little Hamilton; her parents and other family of England. Survivors - children: Mary Denise Eaton (Vernon) of Seymour, TN; Patricia Elizabeth Garner (Spencer) of Mongolia; Paul Leonidas Hamilton (Marty) of Seymour, TN; Philip Davis Hamilton of Seymour; James Neil Hamilton of Knoxville; Steve Michael Hamilton (Francis) of Knoxville. 18 gr'children; 23 grt'gr'children; Several relatives of England; Mrs. Hamilton was born December 4, 1921 in Leighton Buzzard, England. She served in the British Army during WWII. She became a war bride to Harry L. Hamilton on October 14, 1944 in England. Together they returned to America where she made her home and became an naturalized American citizen in 1949. Gladys and Harry established the Tri-County News in 1948 being publishers together and Gladys served as the Editor until 1997. Gladys was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, the Pilots Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of Gap Creek Christian Church.
Visitation will be at Highland South Memorial Funeral Home in South Knoxville on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Gap Creek Christian Church on Kimberlin Heights Road in South Knoxville on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with interment immediately following at Gap Creek Christian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made in her name to the missions of Gap Creek Christian Church, 2102 Kimberlin Heights Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37998. www.highlandmemorialparks.com is in charge of arrangements.
