Gladys K. McCarter Maples, age 89, of Knoxville, was called home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. She was the oldest remaining charter member of Burnett's Creek Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was "mother to many" and loved to garden and quilt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Carl Lee Maples; parents, Henry and Ella Mae McCarter; eleven brothers and sisters and five half-brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: her Children, Brenda Clapp, Randal Maples, Calvin (Emily) Maples, and Patsy (Garry) Ogle;
Eight grandchildren; Thirteen great-grandchildren; Two sisters-in-law; Several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of UT Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral service 7 PM Saturday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Donny Walker officiating. Interment 2 PM Sunday in Huskey Cemetery.
