Delmar Walter Baxter, 91, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2004.
Delmar was born in Fall River, Tennessee, on March 10, 1912. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BA/MA Degree in English and Theater Arts. His love of writing prompted him to move his family from Cosby, Tennessee, to Orlando, Florida, in 1965 to accept a professorship in English at Orlando Junior College. He was an active member of the Audubon Park Covenant Church.
Delmar is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Uvela Carver Baxter. He is also survived by his three daughters, Rebecca Gustafson of Cape Canaveral, Florida, Kathy Montoya of Orlando, Florida, and Dr. Robbie Baxter (Watson) of Denver, Colorado. Delmar loved his five grandchildren: Sean Gustafson, Andrea Montoya Yungwirth, Heidi Gustafson Popp, Geoffrey Montoya, Sammie Elise Watson, and his one great grandchild, Haley Dawn Yungwirth.
He was preceded in death by his parents Nora and Walter Baxter, as well as his siblings Robbie Sue Baxter, Gardie Bottoms, Hazel Birdwell, Doy Baxter, Denver Baxter, and Tracy Baxter. Delmar is survived by his brother James Baxter and sisters, Avis Hood, Joyce Meadors, and Francenia Patterson, and sisters-in-law, Delsie Carver Bryant and Emma Dean Carver. Delmar was a loving father and husband and will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 10, at the Audubon Park Covenant Church.
