U.S. Veteran Mr. Dewey W. Ball, Jr. (Dude) of Newport passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of 75. Dewey was born on June 5, 1941 to Dewey Winfred and Geneva Kennedy Ball. His parents predeceased him as well as his sister and brother in law Pat and Jack Henry, brother Johnny Ball, father in law and mother in law Fred and Edith Williams, and brothers in law Jimmy Fred Ramsey, Maurice (Diz) Huffman and Clyde Driskill and sister in law Doris Ball. Dewey is survived by his wife of 50 years, Emily Williams Ball, sisters Janice Ramsey and Denise Depew, sisters in law Diane Driskill, Jan Fancher and Sherry Trudeau, brothers in law Ronnie Depew, Richard Fancher and Ronald Trudeau as well as numerous other family members including special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Dewey joined the United States Navy after graduation and proudly served his country for four years. He was then hired by South Central Bell and retired from Bell South after a 29 year career. Dewey was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan enjoying trout fishing, camping, and supporting his favorite teams the Tennessee Volunteers and Dallas Cowboys. He was also a diehard “Parrott Head” and loved to travel to his favorite getaway-Key West. Dewey was charismatic, generous, entertaining and renowned for his legendary one-liners and he enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed by his devoted family and his many friends. There will be a Celebration of Life service at 7 pm Thursday July 21, 2016 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-7 prior to the service.
