- In 1860 Absolum G. Lewis aged 31, merchant, born South Carolina, was living in
Tecumseh, Tecumseh Township, Shawnee County, Kansas; his wife Martha was aged
28, born in Georgia with children John A. aged 2 and Hiram aged 7 months, both
born in Kansas. In 1865 they were in Atchison County, Kansas; A. J. Lewis was
a clerk, and there were two additional members of the household, Augustus Lewis
aged 2, born in Kansas, and John McTeer aged 67, born in Tennessee.
In 1870 Abraham G. Lewis aged 42 years born in South Carolina, was an
agricultural dealer in Atchison, Kansas, 1st Ward; his wife Martha E. aged 40
years was born in Georgia; there were four children John aged 12, Hiram aged 9,
Augustus aged 7 and Allen aged 3, all born in Kansas; John McTeer "Invalid,"
aged 72, born in Tennessee was still a member of the household. In 1875 A. J.
Lewis was listed as coming from Georgia to Kansas; there were two additional
children, M. aged 6 and N aged 2 1/2; John McTeer was no longer present.
