James O. (J.O.) McCurry, age 77, of Newport, passed away Friday, October 19, 2001, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. He was the first Captain of the Newport Rescue Squad and was a charter member of the Squad. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stokely McCurry; and daughter, Polly Holt.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Dunn McCurry, of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Patty McCurry, of Newport; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Pat and Jesse Moss, of Newport; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Hollis and Kathy Dunn, of Newport; son-in-law, Bill Holt, of Newport; brother, Daniel McCurry, of Arizona; grandchildren, Melissa Ball and her husband, Dennis, of Newport; Billy Holt and his wife, Pam, of Newport, Michelle Lane and her husband, Tommy, of Newport; stepgrandchildren, Keva and Roger Shorter, of Sevierville, Donna and Jason Hunt, of Newport, Bryon Moss, of Newport, Leslie and Ed Fleming, of Morristown; also nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Jennings officiating, a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral. Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday in Union Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home.
