  John C. McTier was a farmer living near Cassville, Georgia, just west of the present (1972) U. S. Highway 41. On 7 August 1941 Letters of Administration on the Estate of John C. McTeir were granted to W. S. Chunn, with W. B. Quillian and H. M. Trimble as sureties. On 23 October 1941 Mrs Sallie Craford McTier and Fannie Sue Chunn, "widow and daughter of J. C. McTier deceased and his only heirs-at-law", sold to McD. Swancey for $1250, 119 acres in the 5th District Bartow County, in Lots No. 150 and 151. John C. McTier, his wife, and all his children are buried in Cassville Cemetery on a terraced lot immediately southeast of the Confederate Memorial and the graves of the unknown Confederate soldiers. John and Sallie, Fanny Sue and her jusband have two large white marble monuments; the six children who died young have small matching, inscribed markers with initialled footstones. A flat brass plate for Herbert E. Bruce, 1883-1961 (John's nephew) is located in one corner of the lot. There are also seven relatively modern small marble markers without inscriptions, as well as two older stones, one very roughly cut, broken and badly discolored and the other a thin marble slab broken off almost at ground level. These last two monuments probably mark the graves of John's parents, Henry F.
