Willard "Chig" Holt, age 73, of Newport, died at his home on December 29, 2001 with his family at his bedside.
Mr. Holt served in the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Preceded in death by his parents, John W. Holt and Martha Jane O'Dell Holt; sister and brother-in-law, Eva Holt Greene and Scott Greene; and a beloved niece, Jane Greene Hoyles.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Opal Williamson Holt, of Newport; daughter, Marsha K. Holt, of Newport; daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy and Robert Galeucia, of Newport; Dola and Jim Handley, of Richmond Hill, Georgia; Eva Holt-Goodin and Boyd Goodin, Janet and David Coffey, Millie Holt-Styles and Don Styles, all of Newport; sister and brother-in-law, Millie and Carroll Holdway, of Bybee; grandchildren: Theresa and Michael Galeucia, Kate and Elizabeth Handley.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; special friends, Dr. Annettee O'Connor, Michael O'Connor, Ruth Ball and family, and the Stanley Wilds family.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2001 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ransom Hall officiating with burial 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2002 in the Holt Family Cemetery with L/Cpl Charles C. Roberts DAV Chapter #102 conducting military rites.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral.
