  "Martha Ferguson McTeer had many experiences with the Indians. She saw her younger brother scalped and another brother vowed vengeance on the chief, Slim Tom, and in later years killed him." Living in Blount County, Tennessee in 1830. In 1830 Martha McTier aged 50-60 was head of a household in Western District, Bount County; this household included one other female aged 15-20, and two males aged 20-30 and 10-15. ---------- Reference: McTeer - Mateer Families of Cumberland County Pennsylvania, Frances Davis McTeer, 1975, p 54, 55.

I noticed you got much of your information from Francis Davis McTeer's book. It is a very good source. I came across something the other day. You may want to update your web page concerning Martha Ferguson who married James McTeer. In Francis Davis McTeer's book she states that Henry Ferguson McTeer and his sister Nancy McTeer go to Cass County (now Bartow) Co, GA. She even cites the 1860 census. I subscribe to the Federal Census on-line service provided by Ancestry.com. I decided to look at the 1860 census. I did find them. I decided to see if I could find them in the 1850 census, which I did. I don't know why Francis Davis McTeer did not look at it because Henry and Nancy's mother, Martha McTeer, was also living with them. It list her age as 84 and being born in Ireland. That puts her birth at 1776 in Ireland and she was living at 1850. Francis Davis McTeer surmised that she died around 1842 because of when the property of James McTeer was sold. I believe the property was sold because it was no longer needed to provided for Martha McTeer. She had gone to Georgia with her son and daughter. The 1840 census for Cass County list Henry McTeer with two females in his household. The ages fit that the females would be his sister.
