- The will of William Montgomery, written 15 November 1806, probated 21 February
1807, bequeathed to wife Margaret, horse, saddle, cows, sheep, feather bed and
"chass" (chaise), benifits of the home place (which may never the less be sold
at the discretion of the Executors), her living and 30 pound yearly even if
she remarries; to five daughters, Susanna, Ann, Rebecca, Ellenor and Elizabeth,
all of the remaining estate, except that the 100 pounds already advanced to
Susanna is to be deducted from her share; to grandson William Montgomery
Holmes, 100 pounds and he to live with his grandmother, but "if he should turn
out a bad boy or be refractory with his grandmother" he may be put to a trade.
Executors: Walter Bell, David Sterret, they to sell the land beyond Sterrett's
millrace where George Petrie lives. Witnesses: Brice J. Sterrett, John Laird.
