Notes |
- A descendent of Major General Edward (abt 1615) and Elizabeth (Middleton)
Whaley, who came to America in 1660 from England. Edward's mother Frances
Cromwell was the aunt of Oliver Cromwell and on his mother's side, he descended
from Scottish Kings. Major General Edward Whaley was a member of Parliament
under Cromwell. He received charges of Lincoln, Nottingham, Dervy, Warwich, and
Lecister, and later was appointed commissary General of Scotland.
Alexander was a custom house officer, a blacksmith, and owned outposts and
trading centers all along the eastern coast. He served as an Intelligence
Messenger and trusted friend of General George Washington during the American
Revolution.
There is an Alexander Whaley born in Moutville(?) 27 June 1746 settled in
Buschwich, L. I.(?) son of William. (NOTE: (?) indicates unreadable) This may
be the elusive Alexander!
NOTE: Data indicates this is NOT the ancestor of the Sevier County, Tennessee
Whaleys.
