On Friday, October 29th, 2010, our most beloved brother and uncle, Charles Parton , passed away at his home in Midway. He was in his 80th year.
Charles Edward Parton was the firstborn child of the late Joseph Benjamin and Virgie Hattie Ogle Parton . Born on June 1st, 1930, at Bengal, West Virginia, he joins his parents, sister, Elsie Fraley, and brothers, Walter Lee and John Robert Parton , in heaven.
Charles spent his childhood at Claypool in Logan County. He went into the mines at the age of 15. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has been a resident of Beckley since 1983.
Left to cherish his memory are his surviving brothers and sisters who will miss brother Charles very much. They are James D. Parton of Cope, SC, Dennis R. Parton of Claypool, Rose Marie Aker of Taylor, MI, Phyllis Irene Hoosier of Glen Fork, Alice Seymour of Greeneville, TN, Jo Ann Schimmel of Columbus, WI, Betty Jo Viers of Vansant, VA, and Virgie K. Bias of Nitro. A large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
On Monday, November 1st, at 1 p.m. we will remember the life of Charles with a service at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Randy Lanham will be officiating. He will then be laid to rest at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Full military honors will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW, Post 3110. The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of the service. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
