BAKER, MARTIN ROSS, JR. - age 74 of Knoxville, died Friday, August 15th, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Spilman Baker and Martin Ross Baker, Sr. and grandson, John Baker. Dr. Baker was a graduate of Woodberry Forest preparatory school, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He practiced orthopedic surgery with Fort Sanders Presbyterian Hospital for over thirty years, and upon retirement served as a medical consultant in the Knoxville community and was considered an expert in his field. He was a founding member of Fort Loudon Yacht Club, served as Commodore during the 1982-1983 term. He had been a member of the International Order of the Blue Gavel since 1983, and he served on the board of Fort Loudon Yacht Club for six years. He is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Mary Tod and Cabell Finch; children and spouses, Ross Baker, Mary and Mike Sonju, John and Leslie Baker, Sloane and Allen Tillman, Bob and Cathy Baker, and Matt and Caroline Baker. Other survivors include grandchildren Kathryn Baker, John Baker, Molly Hughes, Connor Hughes, Travis Tillman, Taylor Tillman, Anderson Baker, and Sarah Baker. He is also survived by nephews and niece, Cabell Finch, Lewis Finch, and Katherine Finch Paine. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Young-Williams Animal Center, 3201 Division St. Knoxville, TN 37919. The Family will receive friends from 5- 7 pm Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with a private family service will follow.
