Mary Jama Rule Whaley, 89, of Sevierville, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016. Jama was a member of the Second Baptist Church and retired from the Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge after 25 years. Jama lived a long and happy life. Her positive attitude and friendly smile brought strangers to know and love her. The joy of her life was her family especially her grandchildren. She looked forward to canning and cooking. Her faith was strong. If she could not attend church on Sunday, she would always listen to Karen King or Glen Turner on cable with the Sunday lesson. She looked forward to the Wednesday visits of her pastor, Jeremy Gresham. She had a hot lunch for him to share and enjoy. This faith made her strong in the battle with the pain and suffering in her final days. She never lost her positive attitude. Her faith became even stronger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Whaley; parents, Raymond and Bess Ingle Rule; brothers, Kenneth Rule and Dee Rule; baby sister, Lillian Ruth Rule; niece, Katheryn Wingate; and nephew, H.D. Rule.
Jama is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Katherine Wynell Whaley of Sevierville; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Wear of Pigeon Forge; grandchildren and spouses, Kristina Hope and Jack Briegel of Knoxville, Mark and Kimberly Wear of Greensboro, N.C., David and Keesha Wear of Pigeon Forge, and John and Jessica Wear of Pigeon Forge; great-grandchildren, Forrest and Haley Lyell of Knoxville, Grayden, Addison, Ryan and Avery Wear of Pigeon Forge, and Riley Wear of Greensboro, N.C., great-great-grandson, Henry Martin Lyell of Knoxville; sister, Jean Reed of Sevierville; sisters-in-law, Mildred Sutton Rule of Sevierville, Alma Ownby Rule of Knoxville, and Nan Miller Whaley of Pigeon Forge; and many loving nieces and nephews; special friends, Marge Valentick, Rebecca Campbell, Rose Wasson, Marian Biggs, Charlotte Oakley, and church family.
