October 28, 1935 - February 19, 2018
James Wesley Spitzer, 82, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at Hospice of Cincinnati Blue Ash after his recent battle with the flu and pneumonia. James was born October 28, 1935 in Knoxville, TN, the eldest son of John Bernard Spitzer and Mary Cecil (Andes) Hatcher. He married Ada Ruth (Dockery) on September 9, 1957 in Wears Valley, TN.
He is survived by his wife Ada Ruth and his two daughters and their families: daughter Juana (Spitzer) Gole; her children daughter Neshe (Gole) Sloan and husband Daniel and their sons Jonah, Micah and Eliah of Mesa, AZ and son Chet Gole of Brooklyn, NY; daughter Yvette (Dockery) Burks and husband Phillip Ross, of Fraziers Bottom, WV and her daughter Hailey (Boggs) Maynard and husband Daniel and their sons Gabriel and Elijah. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Linda (Roll) Spitzer, her two children daughter Lindsey Spitzer and Alex Spitzer along with his sister Gwatha Kear and husband Larry Kear in addition to many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and in laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Rex Spitzer, his sister Letitia Jane (Hatcher) Hicham, his son James Brian Spitzer and his grandson Jesse Alexander Boggs.
James or Jim as most people knew him was raised on Walden’s Creek, TN, and attended Sevier County High School., Sevierville, TN. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He graduated from Hiwassee College and went on to attend University of Tennessee. Later he worked for General Motors for over 30 years as an industrial engineer. He was a member of Trinity Community Church and served in many leadership roles and ministries.
After retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the local food banks.

The family will receive friends from 10am to 12pm Saturday, February 24, 2018 with funeral services to follow at 12:00 pm in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, 118 E. Main Street, Sevierville, TN 37862. The Rev. Cathy Kaminski will officiate. Burial will be in Mattox Cemetery in Wears Valley, TN. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
