Longtime businessman and civic leader Rex Andes, 73, died Sunday.
Mr. Andes, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born at Walden's Creek in!Sevier County on Oct. 18, 1919. He and his wife, Lenore Sparks Andes, owned and operated the Steak House in Sevierville before moving to Knoxville in 1961!when they purchased the Hollywood Restaurant and established Andes Catering Service.
He was a member of West Lonsdale Baptist Church, Cherokee Lodge, the Rutledge Optimist Club and various civic organizations. Mr. Andes contributed to numerous charities and worthy causes. He and his wife resided on their farm in Grainger County since retirement in 1984.
In addition to his wife, he leaves sons Keith Andes and James Andes; daughters Sammy Garrabrant, Amy Andes, Carrie Halcott and Lisa Cardio; foster daughter Carmen Lindsay; brother Hugh Andes; sister Vivian Baker; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today with services following at Rose-Highland, 5315 Kingston Pike. Internment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital c/o Kerbela Temple, 315 Mimosa Ave., Knoxville.
