Morris, Vernon L. age 67 of Alcoa, died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at his home. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Prudentia Masonic Lodge #719 F.&A.M. and the Martha Washington #231 Order of the Eastern Star. He was in retail management for 42 years where he was manager at Lays Variety Store and Sky City. He retired from Wal-Mart where he was manager of the bakery in 1998. Preceded in death by: Parents, Y.J. & Oca Morris; Granddaughter, Erica Morris; Sister, Dean Judd.
Survivors include: Wife of 49 years, Jimmie Morris; Sons and Daughters-in-law, David & Brenda Morris of Atlanta, GA, Dan & Sherry Morris of Henderson, TN, Dennis & Teresa Morris of Maryville; Daughter, Donna Horton of Maryville; Daughter and Son-in-law, Stacy & Stephen Smith of Huntsville, AL; Five Grandchildren; One Great Grandchild; Brother and Sister-in-law, Darrell & Sandra Morris of Alcoa. Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, November 17, 2001 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Greg Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Caylors Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Central Baptist Church Remodeling Fund, 962 Springbrook Road, Alcoa, TN 37701. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon, Saturday, November 17, 2001, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
