ristine Emily Thomas Jones, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, peacefully passed away March 25, 2012 at the age of ninety-three.
Christine, affectionately known as KiKi, was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, member of Kappa Delta sorority, member and trumpet player of The Pride of the Southland Marching Band. She was a lifelong member of Church Street United Methodist Church where she was a very active parishioner. She was one of the founding members of the Achievement Class, member of the United Methodist Women, and Sunday School teacher when her daughters were young. A prominent educator in the Knoxville/Knox County School System, Christine taught World History, Geography, and American History at Holston High School for thirty-five years.
She was a very gifted artist. Her paintings were her view of the world and are they beautiful! She loved summers in the mountains with her family and this is where she would paint. Christine lived life to its fullest. She was an avid world traveler, historian, and loved her activities involving The Knit Wits sewing group, Quilting Club, AAUW and she was a Girl Scout Leader for more than twenty-five years.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Al Thompson of Knoxville, Cheryl and Jim Dickert of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Deborah Sims-Gregory, Ron T. Earley, Jeff Dickert, Richard Sterchi, Kristian Dennis, Christine Dickert, Court Dickert; seven great-grandchildren, Tiffany Merritt, Kristopher Sims, Lauren Earley, Brooke Sterchi, Lindsay Sterchi, Dylan Dickert, Ridge Dickert; and one great-great grandchild, Bentley Merritt; her sister, Josephine Burchfiel; nieces, Emily Kile, Nancy Winters; nephew, Sammy Jones; many great nieces and nephews, her devoted and loving caregiver, Linda McGill and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard S. Jones; her youngest daughter, Nancy Jones Dennis; her parents, Emily and M.P. (Mac) Thomas II; and her brother, M.P. (Jake) Thomas III.
A service in celebration of the life of Christine Thomas Jones will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Church Street United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend Andy Ferguson and Reverend Cabel Trent. Interment will immediately follow the service in Highland Memorial Cemetery on Kingston Pike.
