  George received his education in the Haywood, North Carolia public schools. George was employed by Champion Papers in Canton. He was a sportsman and enjoyed fishing. He loved animals and raised and sold several species of unusual birds and he was known throughout Western North Carolina as the Bird Man. George was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army in the 1048th Signal Corps.
