Connie Bilbrey Matthews , 61, of Bethesda, died Saturday at her home.
Born Oct. 2, 1950, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Lester Bilbrey and Dottie Runsick Bilbrey.
She graduated from Clover Bend High School and then went on to Arkansas College, where she received her bachelor's degree. She then received her master's degree from Arkansas State University. She was a retired school teacher who taught third grade for 20 years, and she was always trying to find different ways to help her students learn more and be better. She was a faithful and selfless person who was always concerned about others. She enjoyed camping with her family, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Danny Matthews of Bethesda; one son, Keith Matthews of Batesville; two grandchildren, Eli Matthews and Claire Matthews ; two brothers, Sonny and Gary Bilbrey of Walnut Ridge; three sisters, Kathryn Doyle, Barbara Gaither and Rosene Bilbrey , all of Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, David W. Doyle.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Matthews , Cary Matthews , Todd Matthews , Pana Matthews Phillips, Gary Tucker, Paul Kimmer, John Tucker and Stephen Kimmer. Honorary pallbearers are the teachers and the administration at Cord-Charlotte School.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at Roller-Crouch Chapel with Rodney Stevens officiating.
A committal service will be 1 p.m. today at the Clover Bend Cemetery in Clover Bend under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Visitation was Monday at the funeral home.
