Resided in Sevierville, TN
Gary LaPrees, 64, of Sevierville, TN, died peacefully Friday, July 15, 2016 after a battle with lung cancer. Gary was born February 25, 1952 to Johnny & Marie (Mary) LaPrees in Indianapolis, IN. He married the love of his life, Linda LaPrees, on January 16, 1971.
Gary graduated from Arlington High School in '70 and John Herron Art Institute in '74.
Gary and Linda moved to Tennessee in 1978 where he handmade signs for local businesses until he landed a job at Silver Dollar City. Gary spent time working with many companies before going out on his own. These companies include The Indianapolis Star News, Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce and Knoxville Sports Corporation to name a few. He later started his own business where hard work, attention to detail, creative talent and disarming friendliness brought him many loyal customers.
Gary loved the Indy 500 and all things racing. He attended the race every year since he was 9, except the year of his youngest son's wedding, proving he loved something more than racing his family. Gary also coached youth soccer for many years where he earned the love and respect of many in the community.
Gary left a large family to hold down the fort and water the plants (where he communed with
God). His wife of 45 years, Linda, three children: Misty LaPrees, Jesse and wife Lindsey
LaPrees & Clayton and wife Anne Marie LaPrees, six grandchildren: Brennan, Moses, Scout,
Kolton, Millie Grace & Rylan, Mother, Marie LaPrees, sister, Roxanna Joyner & brother, John LaPrees, Motherinlaw, Joann Hill, sisters and brothersinlaw, and many nephews and nieces whom he loved as his own, and many dear friends, especially Joel & Kathy Williams. The family would like to thank UT Cancer Institute and LeConte Medical Center for all of their care.
Gary was baptized at Smoky Mountain Christian Church. He lived a simple life of faith where he loved his neighbor, his family and his Lord. Now he rests fully in the arms of the One who purchased his redemption.
Donations may be made to Smoky Mountain Younglife, P.O. Box 4312, Sevierville, TN 37864.
