OGLE, ROBERT EARL, SR. - age 90, passed away Sunday May 9th, 2010, in Lansing Michigan. He was a decorated soldier that had the distinction of working behind enemy lines for General George S. Patton. He also holds the honor of being the first in East Tennessee to volunteer for WWII. He earned a bachelors degree from the University of Tennessee, a masters at Louisiana state, and a PhD from Purdue University. He retired from Hercules, Inc. in 1981 and worked 20 more years as the director of the Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation of North & South Carolina. For his dedication and success, he was awarded a commendation from the governor of North Carolina. Preceded in death by parents Otha & Demerius Ogle and nephew Chris Ogle. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Maurie Ogle; sons Kenneth & Robert Jr.; and daughter Dr. Karen Ogle; grandchildren Grace, Alice, & Robert Mishkin; brother Roy and sisters Margaret Cobb, Louise Cannon, and Frances Rio; and many nieces and nephews. He was buried in the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. A memorial was held at First Baptist of Knoxville by Dr. William Shiell.

Robert Earl Ogle, Sr. Age 90, died May 9. Earl is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Maurie (West) Ogle, his sons Kenneth and Robert Jr. (Mary Beth), daughter Karen (Daniel Mishkin), grandchildren Grace, Alice and Robert Mishkin, brother Roy and sisters Margaret Cobb, Louise Cannon and Frances Rio, and many nieces and nephews. He was born October 11, 1919 to Otha and Demerius (McFalls) Ogle in Knoxville, Tennessee. Earl was a U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II who served five years in the 6th Cavalry in Europe. After the war, he earned a bachelors degree at the University of Tennessee, masters at Louisiana State University and Ph.D. in entomology and plant physiology at Purdue University. He worked for the agricultural division of Hercules, Inc., first in research and later as a technical representative. For twenty years following his retirement in 1981, he worked with the Crop Protection Association of North Carolina and the Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation. Interment will be at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville on May 14, with memorial service at the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sparrow Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, Visiting Nurse Services Home Care and Hospice, or the Burcham Hills Foundation.
