Oneta "Neta" Pauline (Brummett)Brendle, 81, died March 29, in Norman. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m., today at IOOF Cemetery in Norman with the Rev. Jim Stewart and Chaplain Harry Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Mrs. Brendle was born July 8, 1924, to Joe H. and Anna Ellen Brummett in Oklahoma City and had two sisters, Charity and Roma Marie. She grew up on the family farm in Maysville, and attended school in Maysville and Pauls Valley where she loved to play the violin. Following her graduation from Maysville in 1942, Mrs. Brendle married and worked as a civilian teletype operator during World War II. Her duty stations included Oklahoma and Nebraska. Her time in Nebraska as a "Bug Eater" would serve as a source of laughter when OU and Nebraska played football. After the war, she and her husband returned to Norman where their daughter, Donette, was born in 1946. During her early years in Norman, Neta worked for Biggs and Sons Lumber Yard. It was during this time that Neta met the love of her life, E. Joe Brendle. Mr. Brendle, who was on leave from the military, first saw Neta when he came into Biggs and Sons to purchase paint. He later returned for more paint, actually unneeded, so he could meet and ask Neta for a date. They were married in 1954, and resided in the Noble and Norman area for the rest of their lives. Mrs. Brendle worked for the Cleveland County Assessor's office, retiring in 1983. The Brendles spent their retirement years together until Joe's death in 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and beloved husband, Joe. Survivors include her daughter Donette and husband Gary Blough of Norman; grandson Joe Ray Blough and wife Wendy; their children Jacob, James, Sarah, and Hannah of Norman; and grandson Jeffrey Wayne Blough of Oklahoma City. The family wishes to thank Drs. McCullough and Adams, the nursing staff at Norman Regional Hospital four north, Anna Jones and the staff at Noble Health Care Center, Heartland Hospice, as well as her many friends for their love and support.
