Isaac R. Pell Jr., 81, known to many as "Junior" and a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 18, 2014.
He was born in Cisco, Ga., on March 31, 1932, a son of the late Isaac Pell Sr. and Laura Triplett Pell.
He was of the Baptist faith and a very devoted member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church.
He started working in the local chair factories at the age of 17 and worked for Cleveland Chair and Collins Manufacturing, to name a few, until retiring after more than 30 years of service. He loved to make a garden and hunt and was talented woodworker. He above all was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who took great pride in taking care of his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Terry Allen Pell ; two sisters: Inez Ghorley and Peggy Bird; and two brothers: Ralph Pell and J.L. Pell.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Gwendean Parton Pell ; one daughter, Deborah Sue Brown and her husband, Gerald; three sisters: Judy Lowe (Roy), Marteese McDonald and Rosezella Keith (Kenneth); one brother, Arvil Pell (Vernice); three grandchildren: Christopher Brown, Candace Michelle Brown and Christel Lynnette Hudgins (Todd); five great-grandchildren: Whitney Morgan Brown, Tanner Logan Brown, Kaylee Autumn Brown, Elijah Brown and Jared Brown; and several other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Amazing Grace Baptist Church, 4778 Spring Place Road, with the Revs. Marvin Carr and Tip Sanders officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday, from 4 until 8 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
