Jessica R. Benson, age 93, passed away peacefully, on Friday, October 18, 2013.
A native of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Jessica was the daughter of the late Sam and Lena Robertson and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray F. Benson of Oak Ridge and Pigeon Forge.
Jessica was a Phi Beta Phi Settlement School, Gatlinburg, Tennessee graduate. She married Ray in 1941 and shortly thereafter he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard to serve in World War II. After the war the couple made their home in Oak Ridge, and Jessica worked at the Y-12 plant.
They had two daughters, and upon Ray's retirement in 1983 moved back to the family farm in Pigeon Forge. Jessica returned to Oak Ridge in 2009 and was a resident of Greenfield of Oak Ridge.
Jessica is survived by daughters, Janice Klein and husband Jerry of Oak Ridge and Anne Sheehan and husband Mike of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Leah Bradley, Jason Babb, Heather Cupp, Amanda Bailey, Tim Klein and Geoff Klein; seven great grandchildren and special friend Martha Charles.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all involved in the care and support of Jessica and her family through these difficult times.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Methodist Church in Pigeon Forge at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, with Pastor C. Dennis Ford and nephew, Reverend Rod Garrett officiating. Immediately following the service a greeting of friends and luncheon will be held at the Benson family farm. A private scattering of ashes by the family will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jessica's memory to First United Methodist Church, 111 Methodist Street, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863 or a charity of your choice.
