Alma Ownby Rule, a resident of Island Home Health and Rehab, passed away Friday July 15, 2016. She was born July 21, 1923 in Elkmont, before the Great Smoky Mountain National Park was established. She had a vivid memory and loved to tell about her life as a young woman living in the mountains.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Rule; parents, Eldridge and Ida Shults Ownby; brothers, Clyde, Dewey, and Carroll(infant)Ownby; sister, Velma Ownby Tarwater and husband, Estle; brother-in-law, Frank Whaley; son-in-law, James L. Overbay; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Bess Ingle Rule; sister and brother-in-law, Jama Rule Whaley and husband Edd; brothers-in-law, Dee Rule and Wilbur Reed.
To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her children; Sharon Overbay of Powell, TN; Roger Rule and wife Michelle of Kodak, TN; Tim Rule and wife Susan of Chickamauga, GA; grandchildren, Rob Rule of Sweetwater, TN; Beth Trumbull and husband Matt of Knoxville, TN; Maria Rule Cutts of West Brow, GA; Joel Overbay and wife Taelyr of Knoxville, TN; Stacie Turner and husband Mike of Knoxville, TN; Ammon Rule of Chickamauga, GA; step-grandchildren; Randy Overbay, Darryl Overbay, Megan Huffaker, Julie Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Whaley; sisters-in-law, Irene Ownby, Helen Ownby, Jean Reed and Mildred Rule; special cousin, Jewell Crick. Several nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.
She had a long career beginning with working at the Aluminum Company Of America to owning her own weaving business. She loved to quilt and her children and grandchildren have a cherished quilt made especially for them. She was a lifelong member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church, Sevierville, TN.

The family will receive friends from 3-5PM Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
