Resided in Sevierville, TN
Myrtle Phillips (formerly of Gladwin and Roscommon, Michigan) passed away in Pigeon Forge, TN on September 28, 2015.
Myrt was born in 1922 on a farm in Gladwin, Michigan. She met Jim Phillips in Roscommon and they married after his WWII tours of duty in Alaska and the Pacific. Myrt and Jim began their life together in Roscommon and had many happy days camping in the Upper Peninsula. They moved to Florida where they raised their 4 children and had an adventure being a part of the space race.
Myrt's greatest loves were her family and nature. Myrt and Jim retired in Pigeon Forge Tennessee, near Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She enjoyed watching birds, taking a good hike and having a picnic. She and Jim loved traveling and journeyed to Alaska, Michigan, and many points in between. She had a special bond with children and helped raise countless kids during her life in Florida and Tennessee.
Myrt is survived by Jim, her husband of 69 years and lifelong friend; sister Dorothy Berry; children Mary Phillips, Jill and Ken Greene, Bruce and Donna Phillips, Mickie and Steve Goldsmith; and grandchildren Stacie and James Register, Cara Phillips and Adam Greene. Myrt was preceded in death by her siblings Katie Rodden, Jack Curtis, Bill Curtis, Peggy Thomas, and Rosie Roby. Myrt N Jim were a team to the end.
When we see a bluebird from now on we will be thinking of Myrt. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As Myrt always said ... "put a dollar in the box."
