Jones, Henry Newton –age 91, of Knoxville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday morning, May 26th, 2013. He was born on June 30th, 1921 in Scott County, Tennessee. Newton went to Knoxville High School and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He served in Europe with the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was in the real estate and insurance business, starting his own agency, Newton Jones Agency, with his wife Maxine in 1966. Newton was an avid sports fan and himself an amazing athlete. He played basketball, football, ran track and loved to beat his brothers-in-law at golf. He was a member of South Knoxville Baptist Church for over 70 years where he was a deacon and taught Sunday School. He was a dedicated Christian and family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowry David Jones and Martha Franklin Jones; brothers Larry Jones and Jimmy Jones. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Maxine Nash Jones; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Stewart Asbury, daughter Leslie Huff all of Knoxville; grandchildren Jim Asbury and Rachael Lindsay all of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 1:00pm at Woodlawn Cemetery for a graveside service on Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 with Dr. Glenn Sullivan officiating. Pallbearers: Danny Nash, Billy Nash, Tim Howard, Jim Asbury, Stewart Asbury, and Andy Asbury. Honorary pallbearers: deacons of South Knoxville Baptist Church. Special friends: Bill Scruggs, Shirley Stevens, and Roy McCoy. The family wants to thank the staff at Ben Atchley State Veteran's Home for their kindness and excellent care.
