KING , J. CARL - age 77, of Seymour, departed this life, Saturday, January 13, 2001, at his home. He was dearly loved by his family and friends. He will be remembered by many for his kindness and generosity. He was born in Sevier County, and was a South Knoxville grocer for many years. He was a member of Gayland Heights Baptist Church, Charles H. McKinney Lodge #433 F&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, York Rite and a Shriner. He was very active in the Shrine's Crippled Children Hospital Paper Sale. He was a Veteran of WW II. He was also an avid fisherman. Preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Tina King . Survivors; loving wife of 57 years, Pearl Vess King ; son, Joel A. King of Knoxville; sons and daughter-in-law, Carl Eugene and Joy King of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Byron Walker of Seymour; granddaughter, Leslie King ; granddaughters and husbands, Kelly and Fred Blankenship, and Amy and J.D. McDaniel; grandsons and wives, Shannon and Misty King , and David and Sharon Walker; great-grandchildren, Beth and Joey Blankenship, Alex and William Walker, and Jill King and Carlie McDaniel; sisters, Lucille Irwin of Farragut and Blanche Storm of Knoxville; mother-in-law, Frankie Vess. He leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Special friends, Beryl Knight, Eula Messer, and Kathleen Wells. Special thanks to Baptist Hospice and Stella Caughron. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be George Wolliver, Ben Hembree, Howard Hawkins, Sam Duncan, Jerry Hinson, Gerald Campbell, Ernie Lewis, Don Knight, and Jay Campbell. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Baptist Hospice Program, P.O. Box 22, Knoxville, TN. 37901, or the Lexington Shrine Hospital, 1900 Richmond Rd., Lexington, KY. 40502. Funeral services will be Monday, 2:30 p.m. at Berry Chapel with Rev. Charles Webb and Rev. Melvin Carr officiating. Interment in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
