Ralph B. Proffitt, 83, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 4:50 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at his home. He was born June 28, 1928 in Jefferson City, Tennessee, to James W. and Katherine "Kate" (Clabaugh) Proffitt. Ralph married Norma Jean Ogan in Wabash, on July 2, 1949; she died September 24, 2009. He retired from the State Highway Department, farmed, and also did carpentry work. He was a member of Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church. Ralph enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He is survived by four children, Larry B. (Marcia) Proffitt of Wabash, Christine (Len) Cross of Andrews, Indiana, Karen (Nick) Weaver of Huntington, Indiana, and Debbie Robinson of LaFontaine, Indiana; ten grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Alice) Proffitt of Lincolnville, Indiana, and Jim (Marie) Proffitt of Peru, Indiana; and a sister, Ruth Pearce of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Scott Real officiating. Burial will be in Mississinewa Cemetery, Somerset. Friends may call 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice.
