Briggs Man Dies From Wasp Sting
Iran F. Shields, 52, of Briggs, died in a Lampasas hospital at 6 a.m. Saturday from a wasp sting.
Mr. Shields was stung on the neck by a wasp about 5:30 a.m. at his home in Briggs and was taken to the Lampasas hospital for treatment.
His brother, Scott Shields of Briggs with whom he made his home, took Mr. Shields to the hospital when he suffered a reaction from the sting.
Mr. Shields was an employee of the Post Exchange Service at Fort Hood.
A native of Fannin County, he was born July 21, 1911, but had lived at Briggs most of his life.
He is survived by a brother, John Scott Shields of Briggs; two sisters, Mrs. Syble Pauline Gillum of Oklahoma and Mrs. Audie Mae Flowers of Georgetown.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Briggs, the Rev. Max Copeland officiating. Burial was in the Dillingham Cemetery.
Briggs-Gamel funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
