Clyde Ephraim Smelcer, age 98, of Pittman Center Road, Sevierville, Tennessee, passed away on November 6, 2016, on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. Clyde was a veteran of World War II. After returning, he continued to farm as long as his health allowed.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean McMahan Smelcer, in December, 1990.
Clyde was also preceded by his parents, Ephraim Charles and Lucrettia Ownby Smelcer; infant brother, Homer Smelcer, brothers, Winfred (Grace) Smelcer, Clay Smelcer, and Newell (Loretta) Smelcer. Clyde was also preceded in death by sisters, Mae Smelcer Fox (Ray), and Ruth Smelcer Watts (Charles). Also, father and mother-in-law, James Robert and Zuria Ailey McMahan; sister-in-law, Catherine McMahan Lane; nieces, Joann Smelcer, and Brenda Smelcer Shults.
Clyde is survived by two children: daughter, Mildred Ann Smelcer, and son, Dwight Ephraim Smelcer (Mary Helen). Grandsons: Anthony Keith "Tony" McMahan (Liz), Jon Ephraim Smelcer (Amy), Alan MacDowe Smelcer (Ivy); Great-grandchildren: Chassity Ann McMahan, Nicholas Keith McMahan, Dillon Wade Byrd, Olivia Raye Smelcer, and Flynn Ephraim Smelcer. Brother, Hugh Smelcer (Erma), sister-in-law, Fayetta Smelcer, and brother-in-law, Rev. Earl Lane.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Larry Smelcer (Geraldine), Larry Stott (Lana), Max Fox (Kelly), Randy Watts (Joann), Tim Smelcer, Robin Smelcer (Cindy), Gregg Smelcer (Gail), Debbie Smelcer Reagan (Dale), Jim Lane (Sandy), and Charles Shults.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Family and friends will leave in procession 10:30 AM Thursday in procession to Murphy's Chapel Cemetery for an 11 AM graveside service and interment with Rev. David Wilson officiating.
