Pernell Richard Ownby , 50, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, in Chattanooga. He was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the Bradley Central High School class of 1978, where he was co-captain of the football team and was active in the F.F.A. He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Ownby ; brother, Darryl Ownby ; and nephew, Forrest Carroll. Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Ownby , parents, Ray and Myrtle Ownby , all of Cleveland; children: Brandi Cripe of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Jacob Ownby of Cleveland; stepsons: Chad Ross of Jasper and Scott Ross of Cleveland; grandchildren: Caelan Cripe, Cairhien Cripe and Scarlett Ownby ; stepgrandchildren: Caytlin Ross, Nicole Ross, Savannah Ross, Taylor Ross and Samantha Baker; sister, Diane Carroll of Johnson City; nephews: Noel Carroll and Kirby Ownby ; and sister-in-law, Gail Ownby of Cleveland. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at New Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in New Friendship Cemetery with Billy Ownby , Kirby Ownby , Noel Carroll, John Glover, Chad Ross, Scott Ross, Donnie Ownby and Josh Bain serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Jan. 3, 2011, at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
