U.S. Veteran Arley Boyd Gurley, age 87, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 at the family home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained during combat. He was retired from Alcoa and a member of the 25 year club as well as an avid gardener. He was born to Rev. Dave and Neppie Freeman Gurley on September 27, 1918 in Monroe County, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Duckett; parents, Rev. Dave Gurley and Neppie Gurley; brothers, Ulis, Silas, and Herman Gurley; sisters, Annis Sams, Nannie Shaw, Ellie Knox, and Mary Rozella Shaw. He is survived by his son, Andy Nelson Gurley of Louisville; three grandchildren; brothers, Omer Gurley of Chattanooga and Roy Gurley of Kingston; sister, Ellen Hall of Delano, TN; many nieces and nephews; and care giver, Bobbie Jones of Louisville. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Ben Ward officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Clark’s Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
