BROOKSHIRE , DYRIS L ( DARRIS ) August 29, 1958-August 5, 2009 died peacefully in his home in Nashville. Darris is survived by parents, Jimmy and Ruby (McCarter) Brookshire of Knoxville; brothers, Danny (Jaynie) and Randy Brookshire of Knoxville; sister, Connie Brookshire (Devin Wells) of Nashville; and the light of his life, nephew, Matthew Brookshire Wells. Darris was born and raised in Knoxville. In the early 1980's he moved to Atlanta where he worked as a bartender at Crazy Ray'z and at events at the Georgia Dome while attending Georgia State University. After graduating from Georgia State Darris moved to the Tampa Bay area where for the next decade he worked in various management positions at hotels and bar/restaurants, and in his leisure time the beach was calling. While he thoroughly enjoyed his time in Atlanta and Tampa Bay he ultimately moved back to Tennessee to be near his family. Darris settled in Nashville where he first worked various hotel/restaurant management positions, but he is best remembered for the years spent tending bar at the Gaslight Lounge (now the Standard at the Smith House), and then at Blue Gene's Bar. He was beloved by his customers for his professionalism, fun loving personality, and genuine concern for others. The family is very appreciative of the support that those same customers have shown to Darris over the years, but especially in these last few weeks it has truly been a blessing. Visitation will be held at Alive Hospice at 3:00 on Sunday, August 9 with a brief memorial service at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203. Visit www.crawfordservices.com to send condolences to the family.
