Horace Arnold "Bud" Sams, age 90, of Maryville, died Friday, February 25, 2011 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Rockford Baptist Church and was a US Navy Veteran serving at Normandy on Omaha Beach and Panama Canal on the USS Charles Carroll. Bud was retired from Southern Railroad and was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred M. Sams; parents, William and Beulah Vesta Raper Sams; brother, Billy Ray Sams; sister, Mildred Sams Caylor; and nephew, Dicky Caylor; Survived by his sister, Grace Holtzclaw; 11 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; great-great niece and nephew; and 1great-great-great-nephew; special friend, T.M. Jenkins; Special thanks to Fairpark Healthcare Facility and Suzy Caylor Kitchens for their care and kindness. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011 in the Trinity Chapel with Rev. Charles Ballard officiating. The family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the Sherwood Memorial Gardens for Interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, www.smithmortuary.com
