Charlie H. Whaley, 85, of Richmond, died Saturday, March 16, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Alice K. Whaley; two daughters, Patricia Stubbs and husband, Robert T. of Mechanicsville, and Betty Watson and husband, David L. of Richmond; one son, Charlie Lee Whaley and wife, Melisa B. of Mechanicsville; one brother, Hayes Whaley of Farmville; one sister, Laverne Ownby of Cumberland, Va.; six grandchildren, Tammy Ingram, Tana Starke, Robert T. Stubbs Jr., Sherry G. Stubbs, Rodney E. Stubbs and Megan N. Watson; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Whaley was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, a member of the VFW, member of the Fairmont Baptist Church and was retired from the American Tobacco Co. after 37 years. The family will receive friends Monday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E.
