Andrew Webster Amburgey, Sr., 83 of Charlotte, died Saturday, November 6, 2010. He was born July 30, 1927 in Dickenson Co., VA. son of John Calvin and Martha Lavana McCoy Amburgey. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was a past Commander of the Hopewell, VA Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired in 1982 after a successful career with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. Andy moved the following year to Matthews, NC. and was a full time employee of the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Schools for the next ten years. He also was a volunteer with Presbyterian Hospital-Matthews for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents and by Sue Amburgey, his wife of 46 years. Surviving are his son, Andy Amburgey, daughter, Anita Amburgey, step-daughter, Judy Bragg and husband, Ellis, granddaughter, Jennifer Bragg, grandson, Michael Bragg and wife, Jennifer and brother, John Amburgey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington/Matthews Chapel with The Reverend Michael Flynn, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn East. The family will receive friends at Heritage on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank Presbyterian Hospice, especially Covey Jackson and Raina Ward for their unending care and devotion given to Andy during his illness.
