Carolyn Barnes (nee Black ), 72, of Upper Deerfield Township, passed easily Sunday evening, January 18, 2004, after an unexpected illness at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.
Mrs. Barnes was the wife of the late Allen J. Barnes , who died in 1995, and was born in Newport, TN. She graduated from Cosby High School and attended Eastern Tennessee State University.
She taught school for one year in Tennessee. In 1954 she relocated to the Bridgeton area and worked at Seabrook Farms in Seabrook and later at Southland Frozen Foods in Vineland for several years before retiring. Mrs. Barnes had lived at her current Upper Deerfield Township address for thirty-five years.
She was an active member of the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church and she enjoyed going to the Upper Deerfield Township Senior Citizen Center. She loved flower arranging.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Ford and her husband Nick, of Deerfield Township; Phyllis DeVault and her husband David, of Upper Deerfield Township; and Jocelyn Ivey and her husband Larry, of Newport, TN; one son, Allen J. Barnes Jr., of Fayetteville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Guffey and Todd Guffey, of N.C.; Matthew DeVault, of Upper Deerfield Towship; Angela Ford, of Bridgeton; Nicholas Ford Jr., of Deerfield Township; and Elizabeth Ivey, of Newport, TN; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jared, and Emma Guffey, of N.C.; two sisters, Peggy Baxter, of Del Rio, TN, and Sandra Ford, of Grassy Fork, TN; and one brother, Ted Black , of Newport, TN.
She was predeceased by her mother, Lora Black , and her step-father, Estes Black.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning, January 21st, at 11 o'clock at the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church, 424 Indian Avenue, Bridgeton.
The church's pastor, Rev. Franklin Stanley, will officiate.
The interment will made at Olivet Cemtery in Pittsgrove.
Friends will be received at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, N.J., Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 and also at the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services.
