WHALEY , JAMES ARTHUR, JR. age 89, of Knoxville, joined his Lord on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. He attended Knoxville High School and Knoxville Business College, was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and owned and ran Fox and Company, a sporting goods store, for many years. He was a former deacon and teacher at Belmont Heights Baptist Church and more recently attended Beaver Dam Baptist Church. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 + years, Eloise "June" Redmond Whaley ; loving parents, James Whaley , Sr. and Melinda "Caldonia" (Ownby) Whaley ; brothers, Raymond Whaley and wife Margaret, Hubert Whaley and wife Bethel, and Roy Whaley ; sisters, Alma Lobetti, and Josephine Myllykangus. He is survived by his sons, Jim Whaley and wife Nancy, and Don Whaley ; daughter, Karen Sumner and husband Mark; grandchildren, Heather Duncan and husband Bill, Rosalyn Van Peborgh and husband Phil, Dallas, TX; Sarah Lutts and husband Adam, Savannah Phillips, Lake City, TN; Matthew Whaley , and Christina Whaley ; 12 great-grandchildren; and long-time friend, Robert "Bob" Lowe. Also, many special nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to express their special thanks to Belmont Heights Hospital Ministry, Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and to his niece, Deborah Lee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Stevens Mortuary, followed by a 7:00 p.m. chapel service with Dr. Charles Earl officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Maynardville.
