Gilbert P. Chandler, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 12. Gil was born January 10, 1920, in Box Hill, Australia. Gil and his wife Allade Belle (Whaley) lived in Sevierville, TN and had recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, Allade “Belle” (Whaley) Chandler; son, Dennis L. Chandler, Eugene, OR; and daughter, Karen Trachsel, Orlando, FL. Gil has eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His oldest son, Harry E. Chandler, of Huntsville, AL preceded him in death in 2008.
Gil served in the U.S. Army and continued to work in federal civil service at the U.S. Army Missile Command, Huntsville, AL until his retirement in 1975. As Chief, Directorate for Plan and Analysis, U.S. Army Missile Command, Gil was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by Major General Vincent Ellis, Commander.
He served his community in several roles including as an elder in the First Christian Church and Head Scoutmaster, Huntsville, Alabama.
Family and friends celebrated his life with a memorial service held at the Blue Mountain Mist Country Inn, Sevierville, TN on January 16, 2013. Cremation by Grandview, Maryville, 806-8170,www.cremationbygrandview.com
