William Carl “Pat” Patterson, age 79, of Loudon, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Asbury Place in Maryville. Pat was of the Methodist faith, a gentle and kind man who loved farming and tending his animals. He volunteered to serve in the National Guard and then shortly thereafter in the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division, also referred to as the Wolfhounds, during the Korean War. After service, he graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in marketing. Pat retired after working many years for Department of Human Services in Maryville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Patterson; and a sister, Ruth Cobb. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary McKelvey Patterson, Loudon; son, William Michael Patterson; daughter and son in-law, Gina and Joe Wauford, all of Maryville; grandchildren, April Patterson, Oregon, Lori Rose, Seymour, Adam and wife, Anna Patterson, Seymour, Jessica and husband, Michael Weaver, Clinton, Ashley Strickland, Maryville and Skylar Patterson, Maryville; seven great-grandchildren. Services celebrating Pat’s life will be Saturday, September 17, McGill-Karnes Chapel with Rev. Richard Rudesill officiating. Interment to follow in Davis Cemetery with military honors provided by the Loudon County Veterans Honor Guard. Contributions in memory of Mr. Patterson may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 36, Loudon, TN 37774.
