J. D. Jett, born March 9, 1933 in Knoxville TN and passed Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Mercy North Hospital after complications with cancer. He laid down this life to pick up the ball and run ahead into the next life. He is preceded by his father and mother, William Jefferson and Ruby McAlister Jett, brothers, Stephen Barton, Charles Jacob, and David Jett. He has just gone a little before us and until we meet again his wife, Johnnie Rodgers Jett; daughters, Vivian (Dale) McFalls; Jill (Steve) Browning; Christy (Pete) Lago; and Mitzi (Geoff) Osborne; sons, Donnie (Donna) Jett; and Craig (Katy) Jett; grandchildren Travis and Jay McFalls, Matthew (Jessica) Jett, Jennifer Treadway, Cody and Dalton Jett; Bryce, Haley, and JT Browning; Caitlyn and Ashley Lago; and Joshua, Benjamin, Gabriel, Anna-livia, and Isaac Osborne; and great granddaughters, Lochlyn Treadway and Elizabeth Jett; brothers, Nick (Rita) Jett; Cecil Butch (Shirley) Jett; Johnny (Michelle) Jett, OR; Tony (Kathy) Jett; sisters, Francis Jett; Barbara (Pat) Sherrod, AZ; Rosetta Jett; WA; Patty Wasson, WA; Judy (Jim) Forehand,OK; Margaret Sissy (John) Knovak; and Debra Starr; Sisters-in-law and brother-in-laws Liz Jett; Janis Walker; Ronda Conner; Edna (Cecil) Frazier; Lois (Robert) Wiser; Kathy (James) Hardin, NC; Mary (David) Stinnett; David (Shirley) Rodgers; Jerry (Janet) Rodgers,OH; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. JD loved his family, his church, his community, and his alma mater, Powell High School. He was a member of Heiskell United Methodist Church for most of his life. He coached youth sports basketball and football for the Powell community many years and loved helping young people. He worked for Weigels, Inc. and Broadacres Dairies for 43 years in their home building and construction divisions. He served his country in the Army. He was a scout master for Troop 154, Powell. He was past president of the Powell High Alumni Association. He has coached, refereed, and served as the Director for the Powell Junior Pro basketball program. He was board member of Heiskell Volunteer Fire Department. He was named the 1983 PBPA Man of the Year. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the East Tennessee Chapter National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame in 2009 for his contribution to amateur athletics. In 2011, he was inducted into the Powell High School’s Hall of Fame. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood Cemetery Friday, September 2nd at 11:45AM for a graveside service at 12PM with Rev. Paige and Knox Wimberly and Preacher Charles Lawson officiating. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Powell Touchdown Club; PO Box 1648, Powell TN 37849, Jett Memorial or Powell High Alumni Assn; PO Box 111, Powell TN 37849. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 1st from 5:30PM-8:30PM at Powell United Methodist Church 323 Emory Road in Powell, TN. Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
