Mr. Jessie Grooms, 74, of Newport, passed away Friday evening, November 30, 2001 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital.
Mr. Grooms was a retired construction worker and farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Susie Grooms; sisters, Juanita Mathis and Geraldine Ledford; and brother, Dewey Grooms.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Allens Chapel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Jean Grooms, of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Herbert Shults, of Cosby; sister, Estelle Price, of Newport; brother, Floyd Grooms, of Cosby; brothers and sisters-in-law, Avery and Brenda Grooms and Donald and Phyllis Grooms, all of Cosby.
Additional survivors include 30 nieces and nephews including a special niece, Della Sue Shults, of Cosby; and a host of friends.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2001 at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Leon Large and Rev. Jerry Hall officiating.
Interment was in Union Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
The nephews served as pallbearers.
