Maxie Messer, 83, a resident of Warren since the late 1950s, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Campus, Warren. He was born Feb. 27, 1925, in Sevierville, Tenn.
Mr. Messer worked in parts production in the automotive industry. He enjoyed gardening and was a longtime member of the Warren Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II.
He is survived by his children, Connie (Tom) Summers of Montague, Mich., and Nancy (Andrew) Smith of North Branch; grandchildren, Neil Summers, Ashley, Eddie and Jaden Smith; and siblings, William, Frank, James and Henry Messer. He was predeceased by his wife, Wilma; parents, Nola Mae and James Messer; and siblings, Andy, Russell and Glada Messer.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warren Missionary Baptist Church, 11285 E. 10 Mile Road, Warren, with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Christian Memorial Cultural Center, Rochester.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Monday at Ford Funeral Home, 26560 Van Dyke, Center Line. Additional visitation is noon-12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
