SHAW , JUANITA HAYES - age 83, passed away Friday morning, April 9, 1999, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born near Bryson City, North Carolina. She was the first of six children born to James Andy Hayes and wife, Ella Adala Fuller. The Hayes family later moved to Tellico Plains where Juanita and her first husband, Jacob Scott Kimsey, were blessed with four children. During World War II, Juanita and her children resettled near Maryville in the Binfield/Salem Community. Juanita worked at the north plant of ALCOA over a 35 year period until 1978. She took pride in her work and after retiring, Juanita contributed spare time working as Executive Secretary to The Executive Board and as Recording Secretary to The Senior Steelworkers Association of Local 309. In addition, she found time to accept various responsibilities at The Salem Baptist Church. She also served as an Officer in various Blount County elections. Juanita loved to travel. "From the sidewalks of New York to the cable cars of San Francisco", she traveled! Juanita 's love of travel was second only to her love of family. Her happiest moments always seemed to be at family gatherings surrounded by the small grandchildren. Juanita 's convictions were strong. She had no doubts about her political party, her labor union or her family ties. She overcame many obstacles in life. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marjorie McNutt and brother, Ed and W.J. Hayes. Survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Thomas M. Shaw ; children, Pauline and Edmund Morrisey, Shirley and Ralph Smith, Joe and Elizabeth Kimsey and Lawrence and Gerrie Kimsey; brother, James A. Hayes; sister, Marie Eddington of Tellico; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral service 8 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Miller Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Gene Gann and Rev. Darrell Millsapps officiating. Family and friends will meet 10 a.m. Monday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment. The family will receive friends from 5:30-8 Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
